OZAMC, posting a comment on the Hemmings Blog says:

Engine is a Mick Webb built Mopar 360 aftermarket block.
Jim Richards was given special dispensation by Category Organisers to use this , his argument was, ?not enough Racing Parts available for an AMC 360″

Great information, still doesn't verify the engine is even based on an AMC engine.
Indy makes aluminum block AMC engines, with the distributor in front.

Here's the word from Bruce Tyson, who built the Javelin for Jim
Richards, in a letter to the Hudson-AMC Car Club of Australia:

"Now the vehicle is being assembled for the final time. The rear-end
is a Ford 9" with fully floating hubs. The transmission is a
straight-cut Nascar 4-speed box based on a Super T10 with dog
engagement. The clutch is a Tilton 7.25" triple-plate assembly. The
maximum engine capacity allowed in this series is 6000cc but due to
the lack of AMC engine components suitable for racing, the authorities
have allowed us to use an aftermarket engine block and alloy cylinder
heads. It will be 360cu/ins and with a bit of luck, it should produce
something around the 660 to 680 horsepower."

It wasn't even that hard to find.

It looked like it had the correct front timing cover but without distributor...

Quoting Armand Eshleman <aje1@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx>:

The engine in the car during the video footage of the underhood is not an
AMC engine, unless they put the distributor in the rear in Australia. Maybe
a swap was done later because they don't have as many AMC engines there to
work with.

It is indeed an AMC 360 (required by their rules to be from the OEM
manufacturer I think)

WOW ! TOO AWESOME, THANKS FOR POSTING

When you're watching this video, pause it at the engine compartment > views,

1. Where's the distributor? electronic crank triggered ignition?

2. Are those larger black hoses running down between the valve covers > and
intake manifold cooling hoses?

3. The aluminum fabricated valve covers are huge ! notice the holes for
bolting them on are well inside the edges of the cover.

4. The chassiss bracing is mounted through the firewall and goes near > the
shock tower, also bracing is attached immediately in front of the shock
tower and straddles the engine compartment in front of the carburetor.

5. front suspension appears to use the factory sway bar position and
mounting method.

6. What intake manifold is this?

Most importantly, the engine in the track video sounds very healthly. > I'm
excited to see and hear a lot more about this car ! !
