First thing to do on the sick engine is pull the plugs. Do they all look the same? Dull gray? White = lean or too hot a plug. Wet = oil or fuel. Gone = major problems :) You didn't mention what rpm the oil pressure is measured at. Rule of thumb 10psi for 1000rpm. 80 psi is a lot unless you have a high pressure pump or the relief valve is bad. Did you have the heads rebuilt? The first thing that comes to mind is a bad valve seal. Could be oil ring, or compression ring installed wrong or broken. Cam breakin is the most critical part in starting a new engine. A bad cam would definately lay down, but not as you are describing. These are the steps I would take. 1. Pull plugs and find bad cylinder (s) 2. Compression check to find bad rings or valve seats or scuffed cylinder. 3. Leak down test to help find bad valve seal Hope this helps...good luck Eddie Allison --- On Tue, 8/16/11, amc-list-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx <amc-list-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> wrote: From: amc-list-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx <amc-list-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> Subject: AMC-list Digest, Vol 29, Issue 17 To: amc-list@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Date: Tuesday, August 16, 2011, 3:00 PM Send AMC-list mailing list submissions to amc-list@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx To subscribe or unsubscribe via the World Wide Web, visit http://list.amc-list.com/listinfo.cgi/amc-list-amc-list.com or, via email, send a message with subject or body 'help' to amc-list-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx You can reach the person managing the list at amc-list-owner@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx When replying, please edit your Subject line so it is more specific than "Re: Contents of AMC-list digest..." Started it again at this point it only has headers on it. We noticed on the left bank header oil is seriously coming out the end.The next day i had the dull exhaust completed. fired it up ex-stream smoke pouring out both sides it doesn't appear to be blue oily smoke. The engine sounds sick it wont rev up to it's full potential sounds like possible a dead cyl. Not at first but now the car wont go under it's own power put it in gear it dies. The engine at most has 30 minutes idle an revving time. I'm afraid this guy may have possibly way over revved it.Oil pressure now is down to 40 pounds. Dose anyone have any ideas on whats going on? Thanks Ed for the use of your great site. We borrowed the work truck, filled it up (80 bucks!) and took a jaunt up to North Carolina. We did some highway driving on 85, but jumped off and went sight-seeing along 24 and 27. Pretty country up there. A little over 7 hours later, we rolled into Chad's drive. Chad and his son got a nice looking 232 with chrome valve cover and chrome fan onto a hoist and onto the back of the pickup. Chad threw in extra goodies that are much appreciated, as well as the engine and transmission cross-members. Darn, EVERYTHING seemed to be included! (Chad, I enjoyed meeting you, your wife and your son) Kevin and I had a nice drive back after putting another 80 bucks into the truck. I had been trying to eat better, but thoroughly enjoyed the excuse to stop at fast food places along the way. We left the house around 5:30AM. We rolled in to the driveway at 10:30PM. Full of caffeine and sugar from cokes, and full of burgers and chicken and fries. Vegan diet completely rethought and discarded. Cheeseburgers thoroughly embraced and enjoyed. (anyone want a kale, spinach, cucumber and apple drink? I think burgers are much tastier than green shakes and juices, and have a whole bunch of kale and spinach that is suddenly and perhaps permanently left over) Kevin borrowed a hoist from work today, and we unloaded the engine after work. Rambler is backed in to the garage. 232 and automatic transmission sitting on a pallet in front of it. Perhaps this weekend we can pull the 195.6 and make sure the '68 232 will mate up to the T96. And with that, I might be putting the '65 195.6OHV on the list, and start looking for a fully synchro'ed 3 speed that would fit the 232. I like manual transmissions, but a full synchro transmission might be cool, over even over-drive! So, Traveler, my '65 Rambler - may be sporting new crossmembers and a new (to her) 232. And I might be looking for a manual transmission at the South East Regionals. ------------------------------ Message: 3 Date: Tue, 16 Aug 2011 01:05:24 -0600 From: Ken Ames <ameskg@xxxxxxxxx> To: "AMC, Rambler, Nash, Jeep and family" <amc-list@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> Subject: Re: [AMC-list] Chad rules (there's a 232 sitting in front of Traveler) Message-ID: <1313478324.4e4a16b4387d0@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1 Sounds like a pretty good day.
