I thought so too until I went to a **local** battery shop: http://maps.google.com/maps?q=battery+express+22801&hl=en&ll=38.431253,-78.883642&spn=0.000632,0.001635&sll=38.431749,-78.882265&sspn=0.002635,0.006539&gl=us&t=h&z=20&layer=c&cbll=38.431339,-78.883578&panoid=LsVcnPXq4GXUE8g_dirLgg&cbp=12,292.37,,0,13.29 I found that their prices were like what I remember all the chains charging just a few years ago. I needed a battery recently for a 1980 Ford Fiesta I picked up, and their group 42 was about $60 when everyone else -- Advance, Autozone, Wal-Mart, NAPA, and others were all above $100. I don't know why but all of the chains have jacked battery prices towards $100 each and more. Maybe it's a function of the fact that they all get a lot of warranty returns on batteries because the counter people don't know how to figure out if a battery is just discharged or is actually bad. Those testers most of them use don't really tell you anything. I'm certain they replace under warranty a lot more than they need to. On the othe rhand it could just be that our federal reserve notes are becoming more and more worthless. ;-) ------------------------------------------------------------------------ MARC MONTONI Harrisonburg VA http://FreeVirginia.blogspot.com/ Freedom.
