It's all 30+ year old parts, and a lot more wiring and complexity. The reliability of the replacement boxes sucks. The Pertronix is modern, very efficient and performs better than the Duraspark box. You can use a TFI coil with it, but unless you are revving way past a stock engine what you really want is solid reliable spark that doesn't drop off at 4000 rpm like points do. The Pertronix "points replacement" and matching epoxy coil is clean, neat, easier to install (one new wire: switched battery/ignition source) and, in a worst-case scenario, you could stick points back in. The only downside is finding a points distrib that doesn't have a worn out shaft bushing. I strongly suggest completely disassembling even rebuilt distribs, in my experience the lube hardened decades ago. Reassemble with good modern lubricant and they'll last forever with zero maintenance. Duraspark is a bunch of old tech with a lot of oddball, klunky connectors, that themselves are a source of unreliability. Adds a lot of crap under the hood too, and harder to wire if you do it right. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
