Yes, it will bolt to the trans, but you will need the crossmember also as the motor mounts are different. You can cut the raised perches off your 232 crossmember and use it -- that's the difference (196 CM has no raised perches, mounts are directly on the CM, and the 232 CM should have the holes in it). This won't be a good trade though. The 232 is noticeably stronger than the 196. The 196 has to have the head retorqued every other year or 12-14K miles too. In fact, you want to retorque it before running. They are really old and have a propensity to crack heads when run hot at this point -- it's probably been run hot a few times already. Valves need adjusting when the head it retorqued also (solid lifters). But it will botl to your tranny. ------------------ Date: Tue, 31 May 2011 13:04:04 -0500 From: Keith Evenson<epd@xxxxxxxxxxxx> I have a 66 with a 232 that needs to be rebuilt but I found a 196 from a 64 American. Will the 196 bolt to my 232 if they both had 3 speed O/D tranys? -- Frank Swygert Publisher, "American Motors Cars" Magazine (AMC) For all AMC enthusiasts http://www.amc-mag.com (free download available!) _______________________________________________ AMC-list mailing list AMC-list@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx http://list.amc-list.com/listinfo.cgi/amc-list-amc-list.com
