The springs themselves and the better ( if memory serves me from when I had my Eagle with similar, though swapped- leafsabove axle ) clamping is the superior aspect. That is to say - the spring rate, and clamping points were worked out to be better than say, a '70 AMX. The rubber "isolators" served improving the NVH, particularly when you have a fairly stout spring rate. Separating the leaves effectively also prevents or reduces stiction between the individual leafs. The rubber at the clamp is, again, for NVH reduction, yet the overall clamping methodology located the leaf pack better on the perch.
