Re: [AMC-list] 86 camanche info

The 904 is linkage controlled, including passing gear but the AW4 used with 4.0L is computer controlled with a TVS cable (works backwards to passing gear), TPS, and speed sensor to operate the trans besides the shifter.
You could use a 999 from a 4.0L Wrangler (redo the converter while it's out. They tend to snap the neck or destroy the lockup inside, which stops the vehicle dead in it's tracks) along with the flexplate. (you may be able to use the tcase, but only if it's NP231 or a NP242.)
I know I'm confusing the issue, but Jeep tcases have 21 or 23 spline inputs and there 2 different depths of input and around '96 they made the input splines spiral, just to really mess people up!
I was thinking of late model (short with serpentine belt) 4.2L or 4.0L with Grand Wagoneer 727 and NP229, which should use the same crossbar as the V6 auto.

OH! Derrrrr! I bet it has a NP229 already in it! Crossbar may have to move back for the 6.
You could also run an AMC 2.5 with EFI if that 904 has the CPS hole.

ok. i did check out the firewall on this one. it has a wide notch in the middle of it just like my 2 sx4's do where the back end of the head fits. the radiator sits way back also, could be reworked and moved forward. i DISPISE anything generic motors. LOL. if i go ahead and get this, and go with a 4.0 set up, i would be going for a 93-95 i think. entire wiring harness and all. the autos for those years still shift with a linkage/cable dont they? this pickemup would be for my mom. she needs something for winter supply trips for their c-store. they live 90 (one way)miles from the small town they get some stuff at, then alot of times, have to go 150 miles (one way) for the bigger bulk of stuff. she has a little escort sedan now. dont work so well.
