So that's where they get the extra inch or two -- remove the hood latch/alter core support! Pins wouldn't be too bad... but since everything needs to be changed maybe squeeze a V-8 under the hood. The later 3.1 and 3.4 V-6 used in Camaros would bolt in. There is also the Cadillac 4100 and 4500 V-8s that will bolt to the trans, would have to fab mounts though. Not sure if the later Northstar engines would work, but if that's a 904 and not a 998 or 999 it won't hold up to a Northstar. The TBI 4100 should be okay, maybe the 4500. Would need a towing shift kit at least to firm the trans up. ------------- Date: Sun, 30 Jan 2011 02:53:49 +0000 (UTC) From: Wrambler<wrambler242@xxxxxxxxxxx> With an 86 and knowing how you like to operate. Your best bet is a 258 or 4.0L backed up by an aw4. transfer case and all. There have been nay sayers that the 86 firewall is different, but there are also reports of people who did not get that info and have done the swap. One caveat is you will need to loose the central hood latch. Most guys just go to hood pins. Some change the core support and hood. A lot depends on what you want. the 2.8 has a reputation as a woof-woof engine, but in good working order it will do a fair job. The trans in there is a unique chrysler 904 with a Chevy 60* bell pattern.
