" Stamping code letters started about 1970. Before that it was a tooth count.
" 40 ÷ 13 = 3.0769... which rounds up to 3.08.
" 3.08 is a 6 cylinder size AMC model 15 diff. The equivalent model 20 would be
" 43/14 for 3.07:1
...and additionally, amc didn't start cutting 3.07s for the amc20
until the mid-late '70s. up to the early '70s they had 2.86s and
3.15s.
this definitely nails chad's axle as an amc15; 3.08 was a vy common
gear in them.
