You can use a Motorcraft dizzy with the TFI upgrade or the old Delco with a Pertronix in it also -- any will work, even keep points if you want to! The factory exhaust is great, much better than any of the old cast iron ones and an aftermarket header won't be much better. I'd go with a 450-500 cfm carb, but the 390 will work (Demon makes a 470 cfm Truck Avenger that would be really good!). Don't know much about the tranny situation. I do know that you can put T-5 gears in a T-4 though -- same trans except for the OD, which is in the output shaft housing IIRC.

anyway with a good tuned carb and ignition on the 258 in it now. (it cranks over good, no plugs, and most of the dizzy is gone) i would use the other 258 parts and 4.0, and build a carbed 4.6. 9.5/1 compression sounds safe and fine to me for a good tuned carb. make sure the head is good and smooth. i think i have a "PLAN". (those dont always work well for me)
