If there was truly a "good" car being produced in the mid 80's, well, honestly, in my book it would indeed be a Ford Mustang GT starting in 82. They were the first to pull their heads out of the EPA feed bucket and try to kick some life back into an honest to goodness low (comparatively speaking) cost sports car. By 83 or 84 they had laid their hands on the coveted EPA coated fastest production car in the U.S.A. Would any of what followed be here today without that Prod to other makers? Grand Nationals, Corvettes that actually performed? When it comes to brand loyalty, well, some people seem to be attracted to cars that are market wide known as P.O.S. They grab on to the quirks and faults and work around them. Some love being able to fix that stupid quirk at a moments notice. I'd guess that to many we here in AMC Rambler land are looked as those people. I only take offense when a reason is given. I would expect there to be some slightly crazy people, fanatics in all the groups. The car world would be a better place if we all put a smile on our face and said "nice ride" or "cool car, interesting" instead of "WTF, why did you waste your time on that?". My wish? I wish that in 1983 AMC would have taken Fords lead and one upped them by stuffing a 360 in the Spirit GT. Would have made a nice finale to the end of their 2WD production. As for lending the newly orphaned car owners a hand, well we probably have to wait for them to read the signs and head to "the back of the bus". These are people who learned the mantra ".... is best, screw the rest" and nothing you can tell them will sway them from their opinions. To risk falling into that camp myself, these were usually Chevy drivers who could not stand AMC, or Ford, or whatever, because it wasn't a Chevy. Yeah, our beloved AMCs had some quality issues in the 70s and 80s, but they all did. Mention the lean burn to Chryco people and watch em cringe. Talk about the whole GM line in the mid 70s or their efforts to smog out the small blocks, and see them change the subject. The whole car industry went through a rough spell and unfortunately AMC kicked the bucket. You Plymouth and Oldsmobile drivers, make room at the back of the bus for the Mercury drivers. We AMC drivers get to sit in the front as we suffered so long. Someone lend them a hand.....Russ _______________________________________________ AMC-list mailing list AMC-list@xxxxxxxxxxxx http://list.amc-list.com/listinfo.cgi/amc-list-amc-list.com _______________________________________________ AMC-list mailing list AMC-list@xxxxxxxxxxxx http://list.amc-list.com/listinfo.cgi/amc-list-amc-list.com
