As others have stated, no gasket from the factory. Make sure the mounting surfaces are clean on the engine and manifold and there should be no problems. Don't use ANYTHING there -- even high temp silicone. You could use a VERY slight skim coat of the high temp silicone, but very much and it could burn out and CAUSE a leak! If you had or have leak problems take the manifold to a machine shop and have them surface grind it level across the runner surfaces. If the bolts worked loose the manifold could be slightly warped. Some aftermarket gasket sets may come with an exhaust manifold-to-block gasket to make up for slight warping, but I'd have the manifold surfaced instead then check the bolts when you retorque the head and adjust the valves every other year/12-15K miles. What's another 5 minutes when you have 30 minutes of maintenance to do anyway? The gasket won't keep the bolts from working loose, but if you check them during maintenance I bet you never find more than one or tw
o loose enough to take more than a slight turn (maybe 1/8th turn) to tighten. It's when they are left alone for years that they eventually work loose enough to warp the manifold. Same with the head bolts, but heads are too hard to find now to take a risk with them, and the solid lifter valves need adjusting anyway... may as well check the head bolts while the valve cover is off.

Ok I have the 196 6cyl engine.Is there supposed to be exhaust manifold gasket
where they bolt on.Some say no.What yall say?
