I agree! But the only car that I am nervous driving is my 1970 Pinto! Thanks for all your input guys! I just like to get the info before I go spending the money! Nope,, it was politics and money. It has NOTHING to do with safety. As a matter of fact the Mythbuster TV show did a segment on something like that (found it false). It's such a small amount and it rapidly disburses when a leak does occur that fire is almost impossible. Why would you worry about a few ounces of that when you drive around with GALLONS of highly flammable gasoline which DOES cause serious fires, disfigurement and death all the time. It's based on hydrocarbon so has natural lubrication tendencies (as Frank pointed out). I have even run it without any additional oil (but I don't recommend it). It cools a good bit better than Freon, I typically see the output temps drop several degrees when switching from R12. My father in law had an Olds with such a small leak it was impossible to find but over the period of a year or so it would leak down to the point the compressor would start cycling. I'd just drop a can of that stuff in it and it was good to go another year or so. We did that for a good TEN years. The thing finally died with about 175k on it,,,, A/C was still blowing cold!! If ya want to see how politics and money can affect "rogue" products like HC12 read up on the history of Freon. Dupont has a BIG hand in it!!! But HEY,,, that's just ME!
