Re: [AMC-list] progress...

Nice work on all of it! I want a full write-up on that oil pump business for AMC Mag once you get confirm it works as planned. Needs to go to the clubs too, but I wouldn't mind having it first... If it works out that way I'll submit the article to the clubs myself as soon as I get it out. That's good info that may prolong the life of the engines out there, though I doubt it will make much impact. Not many are really driven all that much, and they lasted over 100K miles with the partial flow and even no filter. I had the same problem with the spare not fitting the spare wheel well in the trunk, but a better solution. Get the temp spare from a Jeep Cherokee or a Ford full size car -- Crown Vic or one of the Lincolns. Fits the well better than the original spare and weighs less. I use one of those in my Rambler now. Only had to use it once! Finished the trip home (a couple hours) then took the tire the next day and had it fixed. I forget why I couldn't get it fixed right away -- either late afternoon or a Sunday, most likely.

It's spring break, so quiet at work, and I took the week off to slam on my
'63 American hardtop. I hope to pick the head up tomorrow. Delayed by
getting the wrong valves, had to exchange, etc. I'm working at completing
all the customizations that take so many hours. Today I wrapped up some big
changes:

* electric fan installation (no small task in this tiny car)
* alternator mounting and fan belt routing
* battery relocate
* oil pump and filter business

plan to make a "continental kit" spare tire mount, for two reasons. One,
it won't fit in the well! Two, it improves front/rear weight balance a bit.
I worked up a four-bar hinge and spring system that will make it easy to pop
the spare up and down to get into the trunk. That's a summer project...
