Re: [AMC-list] Energizer Cam

To all,
Remember when doing an overdrive calculation the front gearset comes into play.
Power goes from input>cluster>O.D.drive gear> O.D.driven gear on the output.
A 2.95:1 first gear trans will have a different final O.D. than say a 3.35:1 trans, all things else being equal.
(O.D. gearset)

The next fun fact is you can't swap O.D. sets between Ford and Chevy! Not sure which club the AMC trans falls into!

as for using the 3.35:1 trans with a 3.73:1 rear axle, depending on tire size and
how freely your engine breathes, how you drive etc, while the math looks ugly, the actual
driving feel of the car may be fine.
I have the 4.09:1 AMC T5 with 3.31:1 rear axle and 255/60/15's while it is not "ideal", falls
way outside of what is considered "norm" for first gear total ratio, it is 100% driveable and
even quite fun at times.

years ago, when I was misguided and had a Mustang Gt I read a lot of Ford mags.
At that time they mentioned that 3:55 was the "best" overall rear axle against the 3.3:1 trans and
3:73 was max you want on any street car with that trans.

Just my $.02 ad that to $5 and you might get a cup of coffee at Starbucks.
YMMV,
