How about an electric oil pump driver - a drill with a 'modified'
distributor. Seems simpler than your 'kludge'. : ) because the oil pump on a 196 isnt driven by the dizzy. it has a gear on it that is driven directly off the cam. no way to spin it when its together. i would take a weed sprayer, and a fitting going into the main oil journal on the side of the block. blow oil in there while you crank it by hand a few times. when i did one of my 196's, i noticed that it takes several seconds for oil to finally get to the head. so, i left the motor 1qt low, and as soon as it fired up, i left the valve cover off, and was pouring that last qt of oil over the valves and rockers slowly, till it finally started putting oilout. hurt or help, who knows. its still running. dave stohler
