so, i got 2200 miles on rosie since she got back on the road. had been getting about 22mpg. filled up tonight, and was puzzled as i only got lil over 12mpg this tank. 23 miles one way to work, 45 miles from town the oposite way as work. 24 miles to the nearest fuel toward town. got home from fillup, and about 15 min later, went into the shop and WOW the raw fuel. the short rubber line from the sending unit/pickup tube was leaking at the sending unit. steady stream. it hasnt been seeming to suck air however. so, put electric fuel pump up on the rubber line going into the fuel pump and pumped out to 1/2 tank. no leak. so, drive to work tomorrow, he has brand new fuel line. i dont.drain/drop tank, replace lines.
nice that this is the only issue so far. motor i put in, i put fresh oil, adjusted valves, ran for 1700 miles. last sat i ran some engine flush thru to clean engine a little more. sure was black, so i decided i should. filled with quaker state 10-40 and some of that "engine restore" as i have a puff of blue smoke on start up. worked on casper every 5000 miles or so. wore valve sealsi think. motor runs great.
anyone know what to do with the trans issue i have? it wont hold 2nd gear. hit about 10-15mph, hits 2nd for about 2 seconds and is in 3rd. even at 15mph. only way to hold 2nd, start out in L, hit d2, and when it shifts to 2nd, drop back to L till i want it to shift to 3rd. it will NOT kick down either. i have adjusted up the tv cable. and did frank s. suggestion of adjusting the tv cable a tad tight. no change. leaky valves in the trans? need to look for new filter? i dont know. does not have any slip at all. just shifts to soon, andwill not kick down right. _______________________________________________
