Ugh, I hate crap like that, scares the pants off you. I always hated dealing with V8 intake seal issues! Between milled heads and aftermarket manifolds there's plenty of room for leaks. Any dozen people on this list are better'n'me on the v8s, but I'd get that whole area clean dry and goop-less and check the thing for fit before assembling it. Mating surfaces should be flat and parallel. If the mani drops down too far (heads too far apart) you'll need to deal with that. if the plugs all look good, eg. not weirdly colored or gooped up, it would hint that it is manifold leaks not a bad head crack or something.
