Go over that left rail pretty carefully. I've seen the steering box mounts tear out of Americans with rust in that area. Usually six cylinder cars with leaky batteries. There is no reason you can't repair it though. Just needs to be done right. You are going the right way by looking for a rail to replace it. I'd go to AJ at south Texas AMC. He probably has a nice rust free rail.
