Oh yeah, it WILL overheat without it in more moderate weather! I don't have an extra, but you could just take a piece of cardboard and cut something close, then mark/trim it right, use as a pattern to make one. I recall there being an indentation at one spot, but that shouldn't affect airflow much. Not having a cover will! Maybe you'll get lucky and someone will have a spare though... ------------- Date: 21 Nov 2009 08:56:49 -0000 From: das24rules@xxxxxxxxx anyone got one of them little covers that goes over the bell for the air cooled b-w trans in a 63 american? mine is nowhere to be found. it was all screwed up anyway. wasnt even good for a pattern to make another one. i seem to recall that those trans will overheat without that cover. i have put about 3-400 miles on mine, pulling these nice northwest mountain passes and all with the car. im not sure whats a safe temp for those trans, but i recall on more modern trans, under 230* your ok? i have one of thos i.r. temp guns, and it has ben NOWHERE near that. less than 160 usually. granted, its pretty cold air here right now. i need to get one found for it, because its starting to get that time when ice, and snow and all will get up in there too... -- Frank SwygertPublisher, "American Motors Cars" Magazine (AMC)
