An easy test to check if it's guides or rings is,,, (only works on non-convertor cars) Warm up the engine and set the idle at about 2500 RPM let it run for several (about 10) minutes watching the exhaust (a sunny day works best). If the engine starts smoking then it goes away it's probably the valve seals. If the smoking continues at a pretty steady rate it's probably the rings.
