Oh, I forgot something!! Tom mentioned that I had to shorten the shaft on a T-96. I did -- about 1/16". That was to fit it to a 1974 258 crank in a 1988 4.0L block with a 1979 multi-pattern bell from a Spirit. The input shaft just did bottom out in the pilot hole. Apparently the pilot hole on a 196 is slightly deeper, or the eclectic combination of parts was just a little tighter together. "Clutch" would never disengage!! Had to pull the trans 2-3 times to figure out what was happening... and that was a T-96 with OD!! A standard T-96 would have been easy to pull and stab back in, the longer bulk of the OD trans makes it harder -- almost as bad as a trans with a transfer case on it, but you don't have the option of taking the OD off!
