I think the next step is to simply buy that Pony adapter (Furd Falcon T-96 to T5), and start banging parts together. I've got all the parts here to mock it up without tearing a car apart and laying on my back to fit it. I'm about to drag the 195.6 block to the machine shop so the trans will ahve to wait. It's working fine so it's not an acute problem.
