Speaking of 4.0Ls and strokers. I finally got the tool to do piston pins. I ordered tha last item for the home shop last night. I had a Harbor fright coupon for free shipping and their high temp non contact temp reading gun was on sale for $29.99 so I ordered up one. It'll do up to about 900 degrees and max safe on rods is about 612* from what I have read. I expect to start at about 400 degrees and work up by about 50 degree increments. I'm not sure If I'm going to build a lowbuck rod oven for use with a torch or get an electric oven of some sort to do the heating of the rod. But the temp gun should allow me to to some experimenting to see what temp to shoot for in heating the rods. Good thing I kept those old 199 rods and pistons to experiment on. Once I find the right temp and do some practice runs it should be pretty repeatable I assume... I wonder where Brunce Hevner is at?
