10w40 is too thick unless the manual calls for it. Mobil 1 has a huge 
amount of detergent in it and is probably why your oil is so dark. That 
will clear up after a few oil changes but I would not use a synthetic 
oil on your motor until you rebuild it. The reason for that is it will 
clean up all of the sludge that is preventing oil leaks. BTW, you'll 
need to change the oil using normal intervals until it clears up if you 
stick with a full synthetic.

Concerning the wipers, make sure you have the vacuum lines hooked up 
properly at the pump. It should be marked which side is which. If that's 
okay, disconnect the vacuum lines, plug the line going to the engine, 
start the engine and check the vacuum on the outlet side. At 800-1000 
RPM you should have 14-19 inches of vacuum. If that is okay, the problem 
is most likely with the wiper motor. In any event, the wiper motor would 
likely benefit from fresh grease. It is a pretty easy job. Here is a
