I had a 64 Ambassador like the one I shared (except it was a 4 door) back in 1973, it had the same drivetrain: 327 w/AT. ( and I'm pretty sure it had a 4barrel carb) I lived out of town but it got 20mpg consistently and I was 17 years old so I never babied it :-) but I agree that the 64 HT is the best looking car Rambler ever made. And I remember really liking how it road. But the radio was absolutely killer! It was all AM back then of course but it had a great sound for its day- Was it transistor or did they put tubes in those things? Whichever- it sounded good. I wonder if I 'd still think so today... Joel That 327 would have to be babied to consistently get 18 mpg or so. Tom said 16-18... I can believe it, but bet 16 on the highway was more common than 18, and that means 12-13 in town. Now with a 232 it would keep up with most traffic (at least the economy cars) and get in the low 20s. It needs a 4.0L -- not a stroker, simply a stock 4.0L. Then it would get 22-24 mpg AND keep up with traffic easily, about the same power as the 327! A stroker would give it more power, but from experience it's not really needed, and you lose 2 mpg on the highway. _______________________________________________ Amc-list mailing list Amc-list@xxxxxxxxxxxx http://splatter.wps.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/amc-list
