We used to, when I was kid, get invited to a cook out every year from some side relatives that would old a corn roast.
Usually on a very short notice as the corn was field corn and it only had a few days window where they could do the roast. 
  When done at exactly the right time it is darn  near impossible to tell the difference.

On the flip side, we got some "bread and butter" corn this year that was so sweet it was almost like eating candy.
After one ear, I steered clear of it. Too sweet for a grumpy old guy like me :]

Now, back to alcohol, er, AMC...
