Like Mark says, two door wagon will bring more. Popularity and interest drives prices first, condition second. Hot rodders mightbe interested in the two door wagon, so there's a lot more universal interest, especially with the usual Ford and Chevy fodder bringing such high prices now. The only thing you'd really need to put the 63 196 in the 61-63 American is the front mounitng plate. The rear mounts are on the bell housing. You can make mounts and brackets easy enough, but should be able to find a bell cheap. The plate from any 196 (L-head, OHV, or even AL) in any 62 or earlier AMC (63 American) will fit. The timing cover needs to come off, and I think thechain and cam gear too. Would be a good idea to change those while in there, and of course the front seal. If you get it I have the parts you'd need and would let you have them (bell with mounts and plate) for $25 + shipping. You'd need new rubber mounts though. ------------------- From: "Thomas Garner" <Tgarner@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx> > Hey guys, > Got a question about a car I don't own.(See the link) > http://nashville.craigslist.org/car/765527512.html > > I probably won't do it because I think a $1,000 is a bit much to give for it > without an engine. I may be wrong about that, but considering that I gave $1,200 > for my '64 Classic drove it home from an hour away (body and paint in very good > condition) it just seems too high a price. > > Anyways, I have my 64 Classic and I have my rusted out floor paneled '63 > Classic. The 64 has 232 (I'm certain of that now, thanks Matt) and my '63 has > the OHC 196. Not much interchanging there, so I have an extra engine. > Would the 196 fit in this car? Did it originally come with that engine in it? > Would the transmission interchange too? -- Frank Swygert Publisher, "American Motors Cars" Magazine (AMC) For all AMC enthusiasts http://farna.home.att.net/AMC.html (free download available!) _______________________________________________ Amc-list mailing list Amc-list@xxxxxxxxxxxx http://splatter.wps.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/amc-list
