I think the early 4.0L cranks matched the 258 crank.
later on they enlarged the first step in the crank to the 1.81" diameter.
The bushings for the 258's are about 1.056" or so O.D.

I'm reserving judgement till I can get the stupid thing torn down to take a look at it.
