Re: [Amc-list] SR-4/T-4 in torque tube car

There are no differences in the transmission case between TT and open drive BW aluminum trannys -- not that's visible anyway. I've had both models in hand, one from a TT car (original in the 63 Classic I have now) and two from Americans (one 63 and the other 64-65). The only difference between the American trannys was the tailshaft housing. The 64-65 model has a mounting point cast into the lower part and the speedo cable take-off is under the output shaft vs. over the shaft on the 63 and earlier (62 and earlier Classic). As far as I could tell/recall there was no difference in the bell housing, but the TT car could have more or thicker reinforcement ribs. Of course the four point mount bell has flats on the lower sides for the rear engine mounts. I've drilled a later model bell and run bolts through it to run four point mounts with no problems, but the four point bell may still be reinforced to take the weight of the trans hanging off it with no other support. All I can say
is it worked for several years, then I lost contact with the car owner.

" I would hazard a guess the SR/T-4 would take the abuse.
" The main case on a B/W 3X series is all aluminum too.

yeah, but i bet it was -designed- for tt loads.
