I got one of them there Petersen Turbo books, I spoze I should per-rooze it and look at what it would take to abuse one properly. The 195.6 breathes like a lawnmower. A tiny turbo that would strangle a reasonable motor would probably work best. That book though lists specs by turbo model, it's old, uses a lot of nomographs if I recall, and most people are not putting them on wheezy antiques. Not sure how to work up a good donor part. Here's the thing: a 195.6 with an axle around 3:1 pumps (are you ready) about 85cfm of air, unassisted, at 2000 rpm. THat's 50mph in top gear. There would need to be boost at that speed. 3000 rpm in 3rd is about 75mph. That's 127 cfm! 4000 rpm in 2nd, if you could stand to do that, would be 63 mph. 170 cfm! THat's it for that motor flat out! That ought to be maximum tolerable boost of what, 5 - 7 psi? TO not stress its guts or cooling system? Lessee... 170 cfm, 4000 rpm WOT, (for calculating) one atmosphere (14.7psi) would mean about 340 cfm? Half that, 170 + (170 / 2) = 255 cfm at max. boost. Tiny turbo. To be a super sweet mileage and speed American, with the Twin Stick and 3.77 axle, if the turbo would *just* come on at 2000 - 2500, you could still cruise 65 mph (2200 rpm) with the turbo near idling and get max. mileage too. I really have no need for another project, but I'll read about it for the future. _______________________________________________ Amc-list mailing list Amc-list@xxxxxxxxxxxx http://splatter.wps.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/amc-list
