I think the hose is 5/16" and you'll need about 5 feet of it. Also, the vacuum hose is hooked up to the top of the wiper motor near where the control cable attaches. I'm not sure how the 196 cars had the vacuum hooked up but everything else I've seen had a hard line running from the intake manifold to the fuel pump and then a hose from the pump to the motor.
