I dunno if it's parts-number-consolidation (probably) but I've had to fiddle radiator hoses for years. Then again nothing I have is stock. Here's what I have in my spreadsheet: 63 Classic Radiator hose, lower Gates/NAPA 7310, 1.5" x 1.75" x 19.25", FLEX DOES NOT FIT 63 Classic Radiator hose, upper Gates/NAPA 7717 FLEX DOES NOT FIT (B) 70471cs (needs cutting) non-A/C! 70 Hornet Radiator hose, lower NAPA 7651, 60977 (Gates?) fits bigger 3-row 83 motor, should fit all six 70 Hornet Radiator hose, upper NAPA 7914 83 motor, should fit all six Got part numbers on the good Dayco and bad gates/goodyear? There are different hoses for the radiator-front vs. radiator-back brackets -- some push the radiator forward of the skin and some towards the back (01 chassis generally forward). (My 63 classic has a 70 232; the 70 hornet has an 83 258.) And what's with those flex hose pieces of crap?! They don't work at all! There are tight 90's on the AMC hoses that must be molded. I'ts pretty darned easy to make a hose a bit longer, and easy to trim a little if too long on one end for some models. That might be the approach Dayco took -- some models may take the shorter hose. Dayco may have picked the longer hose on purpose, but then again they may have got lucky... > > In any case, thanks a lot for the heads up, I'll look for a Dayco next time! > > -------------- > Date: Wed, 12 Mar 2008 13:57:05 -0400 > From: "Graham, George W (GE Infra, Energy)" <george.graham@xxxxxx> > > Seems all the usual brand's catalogs > list the same hose for pretty much all '77-and-up AMC 6-cylinder > passenger cars.
