At the risk of pissing people off, I have to say I think that writing in to complain is walking right into a sort of trap -- a better response I think would to be take a 'big man' approach and chuckle at the joke, then point out brief intersting points -- Ford made more MODEL-T's! than AMC did cars in 30 years -- yet frugal AMC conjured up the first muscle car; the OTHER true American sports car; more than it's fair share of muscle cars; the bullet-proof "jeep" motor (the six) in production for FORTY YEARS and still strong. AMC made blunders too -- occasional bad design choices, bad timing, poor long-view decisions -- same as GM and Ford did, only they had the money to muscle through it that AMC didn't. And current GM fans should be nervous today... (I wouldn't point that out :-) For the hundred or so "models" of car that AMC made in those 30 years, a huge proprotion of them are notable one way or the other. Yep... I admit it... I'd LOVE to see some kind of resurected AMC, but it's not going to happen. The article raised a dream, and popped the bubble. > I was, in NO way referring to Frank's publication as a "small" thing. There just seems to be so much negativity about them from the "Big 3" fans, even to this day, yet here the occasional AMC car cruises onto the field at the car show, causing more smiles and "my Dad had one of those" comments than any Falcon or Fury ever does. Sure, we're different. AMC was different. When everyone else was making drastic changes to their products, throwing money around like mints, AMC saved a bundle producing the same subframe with fresh skin, and keeping up with changing tastes. Clever. > > One more point AMC always got thrown at it was their use of proven parts, keeping R&D costs down. Another company has been doing that for generations... Rolls Royce. Last I knew, a Rolls used Camry disc pads! I don't hear anyone slamming THEM for using "proven parts" at a quarter of a million a copy. > > Just one AMCer's opinion. I'm proud to have been driving AMC since '65, and still doing so. I pull up to a music job in my Matador wagon, and heads still turn. Kinda neat. > -------------- next part -------------- > An HTML attachment was scrubbed... > URL: http://splatter.wps.com/pipermail/amc-list/attachments/20080213/dc7c7447/attachment.htm > _______________________________________________ > Amc-list mailing list > Amc-list@xxxxxxxxxxxx > http://splatter.wps.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/amc-list > _______________________________________________ Amc-list mailing list Amc-list@xxxxxxxxxxxx http://splatter.wps.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/amc-list
