The fittings on the oil lines are standard US/English types. Any
hydraulic shop that makes hoses (most do) should be able to match the
ends. If not go ahead with some AN fittings.
Electronic ignition is easy! Just drop in a later model Motorcraft AMC
distributor. For a real bang then convert it to the big cap and TFI
ignition! Search for "Jeep TFI upgrade" for a parts list (big cap,
wires, rotor, cap converter, and TFI coil). This is equivalent to the GM
HEI ignition. Alternatively, since you're "across the pond" and may not
be able to locate a later model AMC distributor, you can order a
"Pertronix Ignitor" module that simply replaces the points in your
original distributor. You just need to provide it with a source of
switched 12V. That along with a hotter coil will put you up to near
modern standards.
I haven't heard of anyone putting EFI on a 290, but it should be easy
enough. There are several throttle body systems out there, and Edelbrock
makes an EFI kit for the AMC V-8 with injectors for each cylinder. A GM
305 (truck) throttle body system is adaptable, but mat require a new
PROM chip to work right.

Has anyone fitted electronic ignition or even fuel injection to 290 v8?
Also wondering if anyone's done anything with remote oil filters or oil
coolers. My car (68 290 Rebel SST) is stock but because the filter
would be
where the steering box is, it's fitted with a stock remote filter. Last
week one of the rubber pipes decided 40 years was enough and fell
apart. My
chances of finding stock replacements must be slim and so I was thinking
about going the AN8 lines route or similar - just wondering if anyone's
already done something similar.
