Good news! I wouldn't worry about bleeding the brakes until you get everything replaced. Also, you will need to bleed the master cylinder by itself before you try to bleed anything else (feed tubes from the outlets back into the bowls, clamp it in a vice, and use a large Phillips screwdriver or an awl to move the piston). As far as adjustment goes, adjust each brake so there is a light drag on each wheel. The brake pedal will seem low with just this adjustment but that's okay. Drive it to an open parking lot, get the car up to about 5-10 MPH in reverse and bring it to a normal stop. Do this about 10-20 times. You may hear clicking or a springy sounding twang coming from the brakes and the car may pull to one side or another (especially during the first few stops) until the self adjusters have had a chance to do their thing. Once the service brakes are adjusted properly, you can adjust the parking brake but unless you are replacing the cables, I wouldn't worry the parking brake right now. Chances are factory cables are seized and all you'll accomplish is breaking the handle on the parking brake lever. Matt Bruce Griffis wrote: > Woot!!! We had success using a hook, grabbing a hold of the loop on the back end of the hold down spring, pulling it through the hole - and hooking on the retaining clip. It was a two-person job. I'm thinking screwdriver or needle nose might make it a one-person job. But we got it done. > > After that it was pretty straight-forward. Brakes are in place and adjusted.
