IIRC, it happened mid to late 68. They redid the pan completely, new ribbed stamp designs. They extended the front subframes to come back and almost completely touch the rear! I'd say it's the closest thing to a full framed unitbody as you will ever see. There is no doubt when you look under an American of that era as to if it is a pre or post changover floor pan. As far as why it was changed, IIRC, Matt has found info that indicates the primary reason was for new crash safety rules, secondary was the need to combat flex to handle the 390 and build the S/Crambler. All Americans received the new pans, though, not just the hardtops. My sedan has them. -- Mark Price Morgantown, WV 1969 AMC Rambler, 4.0L, EFI, T-5 2004 Grand Cherokee Laredo, 4.7L, Quadratrc II " Chronic Pain Hurts" -------------- Original message ---------------------- From: JOE FULTON <piper_pa20@xxxxxxxxxxx> > Matt H. or anyone.
