I'd first suspect that the carburetor goes dry. The gasoline probably evaporates. If there is fuel in the carb bowl you can pump a little into the manifold when you go to start it and it will take off right away. If it is dry there is none for the accelerator pump to pump into the manifold. The starter cranking can't seem to run the fuel pump well enough to pump some fuel into the carb. When you prime it a little by pouring a little into the carb throat the engine will start and then is spinning good enough to refill the carb bowl. This is more of a problem in warmer weather as the gas will evaporate faster. This is helped with a thicker gasket placed in between the carb and manifold as it will insulated the carb from the hot manifold. ______________________________________________________________ Ralph Ausmann - Hillsboro, OR - > ralph.ausmann@xxxxxxxxx http://mysite.verizon.net/res79g4m/ ----- Original Message ----- From: Keith Evenson Subject: [Amc-list] AMX not firing! I am looking for advice on why my 68 AMX may not be starting. If I leave it sit for 4 - 5 days I have to pour gas in the carb to get it to fire. It does not take much but if I don't put any gas in the carb it just cranks over without firing. I have only had it for about a month so I don't know too much about it. It does start very well as long as I start it every day or two. It has the original AFB carb but the guy I got it from said it had been recently rebuilt.
