Actually even the "American/Javelin" trunions are fine. as long as you watch them and maintain them. Mine are fine, still ride on original bushings adn work nice and smooth. I lubed them a couple of years ago. I have horizontal urethanes for them, but the orginals were nice, so I just cleaned everythign up and put it back toegther. I've a spare set I wanted to have bronze bushed in the verticals and zerks fitting installed in. Just haven't got around to it, yet. As I stated in my first email. It is the perception that it is a bad front end. The realitiy is far different if taken care of, even sporadically. -- Mark Price Morgantown, WV 1969 AMC Rambler, 4.0L, EFI, T-5 " I was different before people dared to be different" -------------- Original message ---------------------- From: Tom Jennings <tomj@xxxxxxx> > -- Sandwich Maker <adh@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> wrote: > > re: ball joints > > > their major advantage now is that parts - at least more of them - are > > easier to find than for the trunnion setups. > > But but ... trunnions don't need replacing every 50K - 100K miles... > > > > " I know that the 64-69 AMX type trunnion has problems; I've not torn one > > " down, but there's some weird rubber part that wears badly, and I don't > > know " how good aftermarket urethane replacements hold up. > > > > iirc the best aftermarket replacement is made from uhmwpe. this is > > polyethylene with a molecular weight around 3 million - for > > comparison, motor oil is about 30. i have a sample somewhere around > > here, postcard size, 1/4" thick. it -clinks- when you drop it, very > > hard. it's still polyethylene-slick. > > I'll have to make a point to look at these front ends. > > _______________________________________________ > Amc-list mailing list > Amc-list@xxxxxxxxxxxx > http://www.amc-list.com/mailman/listinfo/amc-list _______________________________________________ Amc-list mailing list Amc-list@xxxxxxxxxxxx http://www.amc-list.com/mailman/listinfo/amc-list
