1. Spacers: Read my original reply again: "I mean spacers between the spindle and steering knuckle". Not spacers between drum and wheel. You'd need longer grade 8 bolts too. But I'd get newer wheels too. Moot point mine then, no? 2. Test fit one of your old Hornet cores. If that fits, go back to radiators.com and order one for a 1987 Eagle. They just don't know they have one that fits! Even if you have to change over to the original brackets it might be worth it. If there's a radiator shop nearby that still recores radiators (actually works on them!) you should be fine -- the Hornet/Eagle/Jeep CJ core should fit your tanks and brackets. The one in my J-10 looks like it would drop right into my 63 Classic, might have to drill holes in the brackets to match the welded on nuts in the Classic though. The only problem with that is radiators.com might void the warranty if you drill or change something. If you do change the brackets, use "silver solder", not regular solder, to put the brackets on. Might take a MAPP torch instead of propane (same torch, but MAPP gets a bit hotter), but you can get silver solder/silver brazing wire at any welding shop. IT called soldering, but it's actually brazing. IIRC the t echnical definition is soldering is under 800*, brazing over. ------------ Date: Mon, 17 Sep 2007 21:33:40 -0700 From: Tom Jennings <tomj@xxxxxxx> -- Frank Swygert <farna@xxxxxxx> wrote: > Yeah, finding wheels to fit the drums you are using might be a bit of a > problem. The dish at the bolt pattern is very different than modern wheels. The center is RIVETED to the rim, not welded. The rim is 4.5" wide. It's an OLD wheel. Any old AMC wheel (except mine!) fit Bendix 9x2.5 front drums. I ordered 15x6 smoothies from Wheel Vintiques, at $52 each it's less than truing existing wheels! Wheel spacers won't work, as they need to space out 1/2", and then the lugnuts dont' have enough thread. Would rather not put in long lugs to accommodate! > One of your spare Hornet radiators (if you have one!) should bolt right > in. All I've got are cores... one might not leak, but none are very nice! For the hell of it, I tried radiators.com. Scam artists! I had to say THREE TIMES! I weanted the part only, they tried to farm me off to a shop for labor, very hard sell. I then called; the phone bozo could not locate "Rambler American" when I suggested lookin up under AMC ("it's like listing Impala under GM!" he hung up. A second call someone more clueful said, 'we can't get that part'.
