I don't recall what lifter is being used, but someone on the Strokers list HAS adapted a roller lifter. All I recall is it's a tie-bar type and the bar has to be modified. They can be a PITA to install, but they work! The problem now is the camshaft. Roller lifters will quickly destroy a standard camshaft -- or rather the lobes will destroy the roller lifters. The lobes need to be flat, not ground at an angle (flat tappet cams are at an angle to induce rotation). I do know that the fellow who started the ball rolling has taken orders for six custom cams, and he sent several 4.0L cams to the grinder to determine which would be the best to regrind. So you have to change the cam, lifters, and pushrods (due to length). There are roller tip rockers made for the 4.0L that can be bolted on with no other mods. Not cheap though! Search the internet and you may find where someone has modified a more popular V-8 roller rocker to fit. I know the Yella Terra roller rockers are popular. I don't think there is much gain in just a roller rocker though, especially not for the price. -------------- Date: Sat, 18 Aug 2007 19:23:30 -0400 (EDT) From: adh@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx (Sandwich Maker) " From: d stohler <das24rules@xxxxxxxxx> " " didnt the later 4.0's come with roller lifters? nope, flat to the end, maybe the last one like it in detroit. folks over on the strokers yahoo list are trying to remedy that. <snip> the strokers folks looked at trying mopar a-block oem rollers, but the problem is they modified the lifter gallery area; they're much taller than flat tappets. you can't retrofit them to a flat tappet block without -major- work in that area. -- Frank Swygert Publisher, "American Motors Cars" Magazine (AMC) For all AMC enthusiasts http://farna.home.att.net/AMC.html (free download available!) _______________________________________________ Amc-list mailing list Amc-list@xxxxxxxxxxxx http://www.amc-list.com/mailman/listinfo/amc-list
