If you had AMC Magazine you'd have plenty photos and an article on building a tank! Since you (and other listers) don't, here's some links to a few pics that will help. Comparison between partially built new tank and original tank: http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f178/farna1/P9230021.jpg Partially assembled new tank. The metal wouldn't go all around, so I made it with an open top. http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f178/farna1/AssembledTank.jpg Internal fuel pump mount. Note the small "dam" in front. Keeps fuel around the pickup sock. The tank is deeper in front so I didn't make a sump. It will run down until there's about 2-2.5 gallons in the tank, then it sucks to much air! Not bad -- the gauge is on empty with about 4 gallons left. http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f178/farna1/P9210015.jpg Finished tank looks great!! Only one problem... it leaked! The top was screwed on with sealer on the edges. The fit on the sheet metal lip just wasn't tight enough, so sealer washed out in a couple places, just enough to leak when fuel sloshed around. http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f178/farna1/P9250023.jpg The fix was to cut a smaller access panel (10"x10") for the fuel pump and use cork gasket material around it (about 1/16" thick) and a screw every couple inches for good measure. I could have washed the tank and spot welded it on, then soldered the seams as I did the rest of the tank (solder will seal better than welding -- no pin holes, and silver solder would have held just as good along with a few screws). I decided to just epoxy the top on and reinstall the original screws instead. That was a lot faster and just as strong as welding or soldering (there's a 1/2" flange all around the top). I let it sit over night and most of the next day (at least 16 hours) before installing and another night before putting fuel in (24-30 hours). No leaks at all! http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f178/farna1/P1010094.jpg ----------- Date: Thu, 09 Aug 2007 21:44:52 +0000 From: Wrambler242@xxxxxxxxxxx I'd love to have the measurements and a couple of pics personally, or see someone with the bandwith to post them put them up. -- Frank Swygert Publisher, "American Motors Cars" Magazine (AMC) For all AMC enthusiasts http://farna.home.att.net/AMC.html (free download available!) _______________________________________________ Amc-list mailing list Amc-list@xxxxxxxxxxxx http://www.amc-list.com/mailman/listinfo/amc-list
