Watch out for the LE rating on the oil bottles. That means the zinc has been stripped out of it. A number of large diesel engines in CA were ruined when it first came out and there is an attempted class action lawsuit going on about it. (I can't find the link anymore. It was CARB versus truckers or something like that) Back in '93 I had an old Datsun 510 that sucked up considerable quantities of oil and smoked pretty bad till I changed it to Aeroshell 100W (it poured about the equivalent of 50 weight) Worked fine till I drove to Calgary Alberta on Valentine's day. Car drove there perfectly, but 2 minutes after I shut it off, the oil turned to jelly. I think it was 30F below (wasn't much moving out there besides the postmen and taxis during the day even. We spent a lot of time in the bar. I washed my hair, reached out the front door to grab the mail and my hair freeze dried!) till a Chinook passed thru a couple days later and it was springtime suddenly. My first V-8 car was a rusty 68 Mustang conv, with a 289 oil burner in it. Someone told me to put 50W raciing oil in it to slow down the oil usage! When the temps hit zero it twisted the oilpump drive shaft off! Me being all of 17-18, I promptly took the oil pump off the engine I'd pulled out and left sitting in the rain all winter! I never even took the cover off the pump. I think I might have run some kerosene or something thru it, maybe even gas! I installed it in single digit weather and it worked! I swear I was so either broke or stupid that I think I even put the 50w back in it! Luckily it made it thru the rest of the winter. I'd driven home at least 5 miles with no oil pressure when the first pump broke too! I can imagine what that engine was like inside! Good thing I sold it for money for school...
