My son was told explicitly to NOT use synthetic oil in his freshly-rebuilt engine for a period of time - I can't remember how long - for that very reason. The engine builder told him it would take "forever" for everything to break-in/seat using synthetic. Of course, I can't tell you where the builder got the info....
