" From: Archimedes <Freedom@xxxxxxxx> " " " " " ... I'd like to find a diesel Wagoneer or Cherokee so I can start " running SVO or biodiesel. you could make your own! since the aw4, ax5, and ax15 are designs shared with toyota, it's possible to bolt a toyota engine up to the drivetrain with a judicious mix of factory parts. that still leaves motor mounts, wiring and plumbing... and you have to get an engine. most of them weren't formally imported into the us, but do a search on 'jdm engines' and see how easily you can get any of them. i've been thinking of a 2LT-E backed up with an ax5 with a toyota g52 input shaft and retainer. 2.4L, 100hp, 150 ft-lbs @2400. the tranny really should be upgraded to a toyota w56 but i don't know if the ax5's mainshaft and extension case would fit the w series. g and w series are closely related and the ax5 appears to be essentially a g52, but... also in the L series are nonturbo 3L [2.8L] and 5L [3L]. other toyota possibilities are the 125hp 3L 1kz and 150?hp 3L 1kd, with a r150/ax15 hybrid tranny. all these would go easily with aw4s, using the toyota a340 converter and housing, and maybe front pump - or maybe the whole tranny but aw4 t/c output and adapter. the 6sp in wranglers, libertys, and chrysler crossfires is a mercedes nsg370 tranny, and an engine you can get here is the sprinter van om612 5-cyl, 2.7L, 170 hp and 240 ft-lbs. dunno if the nsg370 is in the sprinter but it's all over mercedes cars, including the m-class crossover -with- the om612. and this motor weighs about 450 lbs. with this tranny you could also probably fit the '00-'05 320cdi's i6 om613, 3.2L, 200 hp and 300 ft-lbs and i'm guessing about 500 lbs. there's also a 4-cyl om611 in the family. another engine you can get here is volvo's own i5 they replaced the vw diesel with. they use their own manual trannies but have used the aisin warner aw4/a340/30-40le in gas engine rwd cars. diesels also got an aisin auto but i'm not sure if it's this one. no, you can't get a diesel volvo here, but the engine's available from volvo marine. 2.4L, 160 and 190hp versions. toyota 1kd, mercedes, and volvo engines are all 'cdi' - common rail direct injection - for the latest in efficiency, power, smoothness [piezo injectors with up to 5 injections per cycle], and emissions. ________________________________________________________________________ Andrew Hay the genius nature internet rambler is to see what all have seen adh@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx and think what none thought _______________________________________________ Amc-list mailing list Amc-list@xxxxxxxxxxxx http://www.amc-list.com/mailman/listinfo/amc-list
