Re: [Amc-list] How 'bout a Chevy?

A: First, mark me down as the anti-Chev crowd (they don't withstand my driving style. I think I still hold the record with 17 SBCs KIA in 6 months) Fords fared slightly better (I gave up sooner than later) My first AMC (that I owned. Many family members owned them since the Nash days) which came to me with a rod knocking in it. '71 or '72 Hornet 4 dr. I drove it quite a while and at least 6 months after putting the rod out the side of the block. My kids and I used (and abused) that car for years (I got it shortly out of high school and it was my backup vehicle till I finally gave up on it because the smoke was embarrassing my then girlfriend after my divorce. Heck, I had the car longer than I was married! Even with my "fleet" of 35 cars at one point, it still got used now and then) Would I have Chevified it? Maybe. (if I found the drivetrain cheap enough and couldn't find a suitable replacement) Body wasn't worth putting any money into at the time. I have AMC-ified Chevs (AFAIK, there's still a '76ish Chev van running around BC with an AMC 232 from a Pacer that had more power than with the OEM 305! That was my contribution. <G>) So some of the stuff for Chevs are cheaper than those for an AMC. Does it make the car worth more? Not in my books or those of anyone buying cars like that. (When was the last time a Chev powered AMC got the same price or higher than an OEM equipped one?) It's fine if you have no plans of selling your own personal mutt. Just don't expect to get a pedigreed price for it or you'll be sadly woken up. That and try to find a mechanic that'll mess with it! Even most of my own rigs get modded beyond all reasonable chance of getting my money back out of them, but I don't care, because I have them set up for what I need from them. My latest J10 acquisition will likely get a 4.0L transplant (looking for either an AX-15 or AW4 23 spline to put into it right now in place of the DOA T-5 just to get it running. A 727 with NP208 may be into by week's end, if nothing else comes up)

Also nowadays the Jeepers are using the AMC V8's as there are
kits avail now to do a
swap. A chevy i a Jeep may be cheaper but its no more easier
than dropping a AMC
V8.
