HA! I figured that I'd get a few comments on that subject. First, I'm not planning on putting a SBC in my Gremlin, at least not while the present engine is running. If it blows up, what then? I don't know where you live but there isn't a good supply of AMC V-8's to be found in this area. They seem to be rare and pricey. I imagine more AMC cars have gone to the bone yard because of bad engines than anything else. My present engine (258) works fine and so does the BW trans, but "what if they fail?" I have the small bell so won't anything fit but another BW. I thought about putting a V-8 in it years ago but it never wore out. When it needed rebuilding the timing was wrong, I didn't have the time to hunt up all of the parts to put in a V-8. I guess my main point was if you need a new engine and can't find an AMC engine there is an alternative to sending the car to the crusher. And about the $10K SBC, it was a HI-PO engine, not stock, I expect lots of AMC builders have that much in their engines. I do as much of my work as possible but don't have the capability to do a complete engine change that requires welding, etc. When I had the present engine rebuilt I pulled it out and took it to the shop and when it was finished I put it back together and installed it. If any of you have a 360-401 complete with auto trans for a reasonable price I might be interested if it's not too far from Memphis. What's reasonable? I saw one guy had a 401 for sale that had been left in the rain, had dirt dauber nests in it, and the carb was missing. He wanted $800.00. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
