Re: [Amc-list] Now isn't that special...

A: I was thinking the same thing (only it was Mark and not Tom that wrote the original) My opinion of doctors (note the small d) is that many of them are so full of themselves and are pushed to only "think inside the box" (like most mechanics nowadays) that they screw up some of the most simple diagnosis. When I go see my current doctor, she listens to me, sends me for the appropriate tests and I have been doing quite well the past 5 years I've been going to see her. Before that, I had to argue with a doctor about my body pain and tiredness (I didn't want drugs. I wanted less pain and more energy) and I was told I was just depressed. It took a trip to John Bastyr to get my thyroid double checked (regular doctor did the test and said I was fine) when he looked at the results, said I was 0.01 above where they HAD to give me synthroid! I was put on Armor thyroid booster and the body aches and tiredness were cut to less than 1/2 what they were (I could actually stay awake for more than 3 hours at a time!) It's too bad I didn't get onto it long before I almost lost the house in Seattle (because of the excellent market, we walked away after selling it only owing some credit card debt and my wife's car loan after 7 years) I wouldn't have been able to move us (I had my sons help a bit anyways) and I still would be over 300 lbs (I'm 275 right now due to work stress and messed up digestive system)

Tom,
I am not sure what part of the country you live in but I would
strongly
suggest thet you seek another opinion on your shoulder,
specfically
someone associated with sports medicine. If Tommy John can come
back
from a seemingly career ending injury and win the Cye Young
award who
know what other options may be available to you.

At the very least, you will get the satisfaction of knowing that
your
doctor was right on target. At best, you may find a sports
medicine
doctor that is used to unusual shoulder damange and has a better
understanding of how to resolve your particular issue.

Surgeons are like autobody shops. No two opinions are the same.
I
would think you would want to here at least a second opinion,
and
possibly a third, before accepting limited physical ability as
the end
result.

Regards,
Dan Curtis
