I know a few, very few, people have mentioned worn out AMC T5 shifters. I just installed a Pro 5.0 shifter on mine. I bought one for an 82-93 Firechicken or crumbaro. The only things that's a miss on it is the handle that comes with it. It is angle milled to allow for the tilt/rotation of the Crumbaros T5. Plus the bolt holes are angled on the shifter base arm to tilt the lever rearward. To fix mine I used a 2000 Mustang shifter handle. The spacing of the holes is correct for the mustang shifter handle as-is, but it lays back almost flat. What I did was take all the rubber crap out of the Mustang handle, leaving two very large, 5/8" holes. I cleaned the paint off and proceeded to fill the holes with my Mig welder. I could have made plugs and welded them in, but I just went ahead and weled them up with wire. After welding them closed, I ground both sides flat. Then I drilled two new 5/16" hole to place the shifter handle upright. After that it was a simple matter to bolt it all together. Still no test drive yet, raining, tstorms, last night. If one was looking for a factory look, it would be very easy to adapt the factaory AMC handle to the PRO 5.0 Shifter. The other choice for shifters for the AMC trans is one designed for a mid to late 80's S-10. You have to be careful about what shifter you buy. Some are made without easiliy removeable handles now. By handles I'm referring to the arm the knob screws on to. -- Mark Price Morgantown, WV 1969 AMC Rambler, 4.0L, EFI, T-5 " I was different before people dared to be different" _______________________________________________ Amc-list mailing list Amc-list@xxxxxxxxxxxx http://www.amc-list.com/mailman/listinfo/amc-list
