I'm running through the final (I hope.) punch list before putting the 77 Gremlin back on the road. I took a look at the front brake hoses yesterday and decided to get off my butt and replace them. They looked to be original and were beginning to crack on the exterior. The back brakes were weak also, from not being bled after replacing the drums a few months ago. Replaced the grease plug in the upper ball joint with a zerk. I wonder if it had ever been greased. Certainly there was no grease bulging the rubber boot. My neighbor helped me with the brake bleeding because I could not get them to vacuum bleed with the handheld pump. With one guy at the pedal and one guy at each bleeder it was easy. The car came to me with no horn. There is some slight evidence of a previous front end repair so maybe the horn was removed during the repair or was just scavenged some time later. Anyway, I have parted out two Hornets in the last year and thought sure I had a number of horns but could not find one anywhere, not here at home, and not in my storage hangar. Then I remembered I had bought a lot of bulk AMC/Renault parts off of Ebay several years ago. Most have been sold but I looked anyway, and what did I find? A new Spartan horn still in the AMC box!!!!! My face hurts from smiling.
